Our 2017-2018 Classroom!
|
Dear Parents/Guardians,
My name is Elisia Acosta and I will be your child’s 2nd grade teacher this year! I am so excited to have your child in my class and I am looking forward to a school year full of academic success. I graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor's degree in English and my Master’s degree in Elementary Education. Working with children is my passion and I can't wait to work with you and your child together this year. This will be my second year teaching at Wexler-Grant School. I truly believe in the commitment, drive, and mission of Wexler-Grant and its staff, and I am confident my students will learn, grow, and thrive as students in my class this year. My door is always open, and I encourage you to reach out to me at any time with any questions or concerns! It’s going to be a wonderful year in 2nd grade! Sincerely, Miss Acosta |

HOMEWORK
Students should expect daily homework assignments. Your child will be given a take home folder sometime in the first few weeks of school that is to be used for homework only.
All homework assignments will be collected, graded, and monitored throughout the school year. It is imperative that students complete their homework, and it is their responsibility to ensure that all assignments are completed and turned in on time.
Homework completion is very important because it is a continuation of what has been learned during the school day. Your child will improve academically and retain new information and skills learned by completing their homework consistently. Additionally, please be aware that homework is averaged into grades for all progress reports/report cards.
*NOTE: If your child is absent, all missing assignments will be put into a portfolio for that student to make up. It is the student's responsibility to complete any missing assignments.

What is Wexler-Grant School PRIDE?
It's a Promise to be Responsible, Independent, Dependable, and Engaged.
Students exhibiting PRIDE behaviors 80% of the time in school are rewarded with special activities. In the past, some of these activities have included a bouncy house, chalk decorating, dancing, and extra recess time. These special activities are privileges for PRIDE students only. Following directions, being responsible, being independent, being engaged and being dependable are lessons we are teaching children NOW for their future success. Please be a part of exhibiting these behaviors in front of your child, so they have exemplars to follow.

ClassDojo
This year, I will be using ClassDojo as part of my classroom management system. Students who exhibit PRIDE behavior will earn Dojo points and be able to earn rewards based on the number of points they have by the end of each week. Students may earn Dojo points for positive behavior in class, in the hallway, at recess, even in the cafeteria!
As parents, you will be able to track your students' points by using the ClassDojo app on your phone. I will be sending home more information on how to do this in the first few weeks of school!
